The Food and Drug Administration approved Celebrex (celecoxib) 2 weeks after its approval for the treatment of osteoarthritis in May, according to documents obtained by Bloomberg. The agency gave the drug a six-month exclusivity. The drug was to be used in people who have a kidney disorder or other medical problems. The drug’s active ingredient is celecoxib.
Celebrex was developed and marketed by Pfizer in the US and is approved by the FDA to treat osteoarthritis of the knees and fingers. The drug was approved for use in the treatment of osteoarthritis in people who have a kidney disorder or other medical problems.
The FDA also approved Celebrex for the treatment of pain in people with a history of back pain or other physical ailments. In a May 4 news release, the agency said it believed the drug could be used for people who have a history of cancer or other serious medical problems.
Celebrex is a prescription medication for the treatment of osteoarthritis. It is also used to treat pain associated with arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis.
The drug’s label states it belongs to a class of drugs known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). These drugs work by reducing the amount of pain, inflammation and swelling caused by inflammation.
Celebrex is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old.
In a statement, Pfizer said it was “reviewing the information and reviewing available data to ensure there are no drug interactions that would be harmful.”
Pfizer also said it was reviewing more than 150 patient safety and adverse reaction data for Celebrex. The information is being reviewed for safety and efficacy.
Pfizer has not received final approval from the FDA for Celebrex. The drug is being marketed by Pfizer.
Pfizer said the company had received a number of reports of allergic reactions to celecoxib. In May, a New Jersey health care professional told CBS News in an interview that people with a kidney disorder could benefit from taking the drug. In June, a New Jersey health care professional told CBS News that patients taking celecoxib should avoid taking certain drugs because they can cause side effects such as stomach bleeding, ulcers and kidney damage. A study in the New England Journal of Medicine published May 3 found that people taking celecoxib had a higher incidence of heart attacks, strokes, hospitalizations and death.
According to the New York Times, a number of studies have been done on celecoxib, but the data are limited because of its possible side effects, including stomach bleeding and ulcers.
“Celebrex is the best medicine for pain. For arthritis, it’s the best medicine for pain. For osteoarthritis, it’s the best medicine for pain,” said Mark M. Miller, MD, a professor of medicine at the University of Chicago School of Medicine and the lead author of “The Next Little Known Pain.”
Merritt said Celebrex “is not only effective for pain, but also for inflammation, swelling and inflammation-related pain.”
According to a May 4 news release from Pfizer, a company spokesperson said, “We are continuing to evaluate the information and review available.”
